LGBTQIA+ affirming careUnderstanding where you are, and where you could go
How we approach couples work, the signs it might be time to reach out, and answers to questions couples often ask.
How couples counseling works
We focus on identifying the underlying issues causing discord in your relationship, learning healthier communication strategies, and finding ways to reconnect emotionally — in a space where you can express yourselves without judgment or criticism from each other.
How to know if it's time
You don't need every sign below to reach out — even one is enough reason to have the conversation.
You're constantly arguing — more often than getting along.
You're not communicating — needs and wants go unspoken.
You're not physically intimate the way you used to be.
You don't have fun together anymore.
You're considering separation or breaking up.
Frequently asked questions
Do you work with LGBTQIA+ couples?
Yes. Our therapists are competent and affirming when it comes to the unique issues that same-sex couples face, and we welcome couples of all identities and relationship structures.
Will insurance cover our sessions?
We bill CPT code 90847 for couples therapy, which is not always covered by insurance. We're happy to help you check your specific benefits before your first session.
What if only one of us wants to go?
That's a common starting point. Reach out and we can talk through what a first step could look like, even if you're not both fully on board yet.
Do you offer virtual couples sessions?
Yes — we see couples virtually anywhere in Texas, as well as in person at our Houston office.
Grounded in approaches that go beneath the surface argument
Depending on what your relationship needs, our clinicians may draw on any of the following.
EMDR
Uses guided eye movements to help process and reframe distressing memories that still weigh on the relationship.
Safe & Sound Protocol
A listening-based therapy that helps calm the nervous system, making it easier to stay present in hard conversations.
Focus System Training
Builds awareness of what each partner is feeling in the moment, so reactions become responses instead.
Sand Tray Therapy
A hands-on, non-verbal approach that can surface what's harder to put directly into words.
Good to know: couples sessions are billed under CPT code 90847, which insurance doesn't always cover. We're glad to help you verify your benefits before booking.

Virtual, Anywhere in Texas
Join from wherever's private enough to talk openly — no drive, no waiting room, same conversation.
Just a private space and a device — no special software to install.
What your first session looks like
Not the "why" of therapy — just what actually happens once you've booked.
A short intake first
You'll fill out a brief intake form ahead of time, so the session itself is spent talking — not on paperwork.
One conversation, together
Most first sessions run about 50 minutes, in the same room or the same video call — no separate intake for each partner.
A sense of fit, and next steps
You'll leave knowing whether it feels right, with a loose plan for what ongoing sessions would look like.
Reaching out is the hardest part. You've already made it this far.
One conversation is all it takes to find out what's possible for the two of you.
